Last weekend saw the Blackthorne team compete in the annual Round The island yacht race. This is an annual event taking place each year since the 1930s. With over 1300 yachts and more than 10000 crew it is the 4th largest sports participation event in the UK. The race starts and finishes in Cowes, Isle of Wight whereby crews must circle the island counter clockwise which is a 50 mile route. Blackthorne finished in an adjusted time of 9 hours 50 minutes putting them in 428th place overall, 100 better exactly than last year. The leading boat which incidentally broke the record by one minute finished in 2 hours and 22 minutes which under sail is quite staggering.
